Lloyd McCreight Obituary

Lloyd Frederick McCreight passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, in Hillsboro at the age of 91. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the Peoria Cemetery in Hill County, Texas with Reverend Darrel Phillips presiding.

Lloyd was born December 7, 1932, to Joe and Nettie McCreight, near the Hill County community of Woodbury, Texas. The fifth of six children, he grew up on a small family farm during the Great Depression, which led the family to seek employment in Dallas, the shipyards of Orange during World War II, Bynum, and finally landing in Hillsboro.

Lloyd graduated from Hillsboro High School where he was a handsome, young athlete, participating in football, basketball, baseball and track for several seasons. In March of 1952 until February of 1956, he was a member of the United States Air Force as an electrician specialist. He married Bonnie Parsons on March 2, 1957, and they were happily married for sixty-one years until her death in October 2018.

Using his acquired skills, he worked for Civil Service and Lockheed. During his employment, he and Bonnie resided in several Texas cities, but eventually moved to Waco upon his retirement. He continued his love for sports by playing golf and enjoyed many outings with his golfing buddies at various courses near Waco.

Lloyd will always be remembered as a very kind and patient person. After receiving his cancer diagnosis, he maintained a positive attitude and kind spirit. He was admired by the staff of Homestead Hillsboro, where he was a resident at the time of his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Nettie McCreight; wife, Bonnie McCreight; his brothers, Bennie McCreight and his wife Nell, DeWitt McCreight, Joe Tom McCreight and his wife Billie Jo, and Gary McCreight; his brothers and sisters in law, Grandville Parsons, Nelda Parsons Gillaspie, and Nona Parsons Villa and her husband Bobby Villa. Lloyd is survived by his sister, Joyce McCreight Cain and many loving nieces and nephews. Special tribute is given to Treva Bledsoe, his niece and caregiver over these past few years.
