Mr. A. L. Smith, III, 81, of Hillsboro passed away Saturday, March 19, 2005 at his home. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 25 at First Baptist Church in Hillsboro with Dr. Howard Daniel and Rev. Reed Justus officiating. Interment will be at Ridge Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon at the family home at 308 Corsicana Street in Hillsboro. He was born August 19, 1923, in Hillsboro, son of the late A. L. Smith, Jr. and Alta Satterfield Smith. On July 29, 1950, he married Barbara Scott in Shamrock, Texas. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Naval Air Corp. He attended Hillsboro schools, Hill Junior College and was a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. He was president of Hillsboro Cotton Mills from 1959 until its closing in 1971. He was a director of The Citizens National Bank, Hillsboro from 1950 until his death and served as its president from 1972 until becoming Chairman of the Board in 1996. He was a member of First Baptist Church and a life-long resident of Hillsboro. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Hillsboro, a son, Andrew and wife, Karen of Hillsboro and a daughter, Carolyn Brim and husband , Mark of Dallas. He is also survived by granddaughters , Catherine and Madalyn Brim of Dallas and grandsons Benjamin Smith of Huntsville and Colin and Patrick Smith of Hillsboro. He was preceded in death by one brother, William R. Smith of Hillsboro.
