A. E. Tommy Meeks, 85, of Hillsboro died Friday, February 20, 2009, at Homestead Nursing and Rehab in Hillsboro. Tommy was born June 25, 1923 in Abbott the son of George Ady and Myrtle A. West Meeks. He attended grammar school in Chatt and junior high and high school in Ralls, TX, where he was an outstanding athlete and was voted best all around athlete, as well as most likely to succeed. His family moved back to Abbott when he was a young man. On March 5, 1953 he married Betty Wooten in Itasca. He worked for a number of years for Frank Bros. and D. L. Williams trucking as both a truck driver and diesel mechanic. He operated two service stations in Hillsboro before retiring. After his retirement, he loved working for David's Supermarket in Hillsboro. His hobby was mowing lawns. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bynum. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Monro Meeks; and sister, Frances Sawyer. Survivors include his wife, Betty Meeks of Hillsboro; children, Kathey Escobedo and husband, Tony, of Hillsboro, Leonard Meeks and wife, Vikki, of Kingwood, Cheri Richard of Welch, LA, and Edward A. Meeks of DFW; brother, Elvin Meeks and wife, Glenda Ann, of Hillsboro; 11 grandchildren, Derrek Escobedo, Caleb Escobedo, Brittney Meeks, Michael Bodden, Holly Barnes, Christian Meyer, Joshua Meyer, Jacob Pope, Chase Brown, Parker Brown, Joe Shedden; four great-grandchildren, Jaden Escobedo, Braden Harris, Kinsley Escobedo, Sadie Meyer; and a number of nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 402 Main Street, Bynum, TX 76631.
