Albert was born on Dec. 15, 1918 to Albert and Helen Bernier Bruno. He enlisted August 16, 1939 in Boston, Mass and was assigned to 27th Infantry Division to 1st Army at Ft. Devens, Mass. In 1943, he transferred to Ft. Hood, TX, 663rd Tank Destroyer Battallion. In 1944, he went to Ft. Polk, LA, 86th Infantry Division. The 86th was transferred to Camp Cook, CA in 1945 where he married Marie Wooten Greenwade from Whitney, TX. He was returned to Boston, Mass, port of embarkation for duty in European Theatre Operations. At wars end, Al received an honorable discharge on July 24, 1945. In 1948 he helped organize the Whitney National Guard of Texas, Co. D. 111th Medical Battalion, 36th Infantry Division. In July of 1967 he retired as 1st SGT E8 receiving a 25 year plaque from Major Billy Joe Ward, Commander of the Guard Unit. During service in the regular army he received a Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, American Defense Medal, American Theatre of Operations Campaign Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Germany. While in the National Guard, he received Armed Forces Reserve Medal and Texas Faithful Service Medal. He was employed by Grant Buie Hospital in 1968 and retired from Hill Regional Hospital of Hillsboro in 1989. Marie Bruno passed away in November 1989. He married Dorothy Williams on November 1990. He retired as a part time employee of Hill Regional Hospital in 1993. In his younger years he was a Catholic and united with King Memorial United Methodist Church of Whitney in the early sixties and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also preceded in death by stepsons, Leonard Greenwade, A. C. "Bud" Greenwade and stepdaughter, Barta Moody Murphy. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Whitney; son, Mike Bruno of Whitewright, stepson, Jerry Moody and wife Mavis of Rhome; stepdaughter, Landy Moody Gregory and husband, Jay of Whitney; brother, Joe Bruno and wife, Prisilla of Billings, N.H.; daughter-in-law, Jackie Woodside Greenwade of Crosby; 16 grandchildren, Michael C. Bruno and wife, Paulette, Keri Anderson, A. W. "Skip" Greenwade and wife, Gabby, Kyle Richie Greenwade and wife, Carol, Shair Sims, John Murphy and wife, Shae, Seana Murphy, Billy Murphy, Mistelle Krentz, Renee Engle, Jerry Moody, Jr., Laura Ivanez, Tom Moody and wife, Maria, Georgia Worden and husband, Tim, Maria Clelland and husband, John, Johnny Leonard Greenwade and wife, Kris; 29 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
