Alice Hoegenauer

Alice Hoegenauer, 88, of Whitney passed away Sunday August 7, 2011, at Lake Whitney Medical Center in Whitney, TX. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 11, at Bracken Cemetery in Bracken, TX with Rev. Loren Fast officiating.

Alice was born August 23, 1922 in Pasche to Andrew Jackson and Emma Virginia (Armistead) Dawson. She grew up in the Hill Country of Texas around Bandera. On July 22, 1944 she married Eugene Hoegenauer in Bandera. In 1954, she resumed her education at San Marcos Teachers College where she received B. A. and B. S. degrees. She also received her Master’s degree. For 28 years she was a teacher, serving 25 of those years at Cotulla High School from which she retired from in 1987.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cotulla, the Business and Professional Women’s Club (past president), active member of DAR, served on the Board of Alta Frio Baptist Encampment, and was very active in community affairs.

Reading was her passion. She had an extensive library of which she was very proud. A talented musician, she played the piano and organ and sang in the choir.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband on October 24, 1996; and brother, Robert Dawson.

Survivors include her son, Gene Hoegenauer and wife, Joyce, of Hillsboro; sister, Irene Haning of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Trey Hoegenauer and wife, Kristen of Richardson and Annette Miller and husband, Johnny, of Clifton; 14 great-grandchildren; Caryss, Aaron, Bethany, Haley, Stephen, Kaitlyn, Audrey, and Hudson Hoegenauer, and Rhett, Jacob, Savannah, Randi, Mallory, and McKenzie Miller; and two nephews, Bruce and David Haning both of San Antonio.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 201 Frio, Cotulla, TX 78014.
