Alma was born July 29, 1901 to J. A. and Mamie JamesonCheek in the James Community in Hill County. She lived most of her long and fulfilled life in Hillsboro. On September 19, 1925 she married T. J. Johnson at the Methodist parsonage in Abbott. During her first few years of marriage, Alma was a schoolteacher in the communities of James and Treadwell in Hill County. After living in South Texas for ten years, Alma and her family moved back to Hillsboro where she became active in many civic and church activities and became a devoted homemaker. She was a former member of the Hillsboro Library Board and has held several positions in the local P.T.A. She most recently has been a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a life member of the Les Causeuses Club. Alma was an active and loyal member of the First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, where she enjoyed singing in the choir for many years and being active in her Women?s Circle group. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, T. J. Johnson, a long time Hillsboro schoolteacher and administrator; two sisters, Mattie VanBrink, Carmen Roberson; and a brother, W. B. ?Dub? Cheek. Survivors include her son, Dennis Gayle Johnson and wife, Jean; a grandson, Darrin Johnson and wife, Terri; a granddaughter, Darby Harding and husband, Don; a great-granddaughter, Rachel Johnson; a sister-in-law, Mable Cheek; and several nieces and nephews.
