Alma Mae New, 86, of Hillsboro passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, at Homestead Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hillsboro. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro with Dr. Allan Lane officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. to Noon prior to the service at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Alma was born June 12, 1926 in Cross Plains, TX to Clarence Otis and Zula Mae (Gant) Gravitt. On October 3, 1945, she married the love of her life Jarrett David “J. D.” New. The couple was blessed with two children, two grandsons, and four great-grandchildren. She was very devoted to her family and always put them first. In 1977, she retired as an operator from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
A life-long member of Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro, she was also a past member of the Hillsboro Les Causeuses Club. Alma’s hobbies included playing cards with her friends, square dancing, and having lunch with the ladies.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband on February 24, 2001; daughter, Dana New, on October 30, 2002; two brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include her son, David Randall “Randy” New of North Richland Hills; two grandsons, David Randall New, II and wife, Jenifer of Van and Jonathan Daniel New and wife, Tiffany, of Hillsboro; four great-grandchildren, Cutter Willis of Van, Erin Marie New of Hillsboro, and Cass Jarrett New and Jolie Marie New both of Van; and numerous nieces and nephews.
