Alta Reid


Alta was born April 3, 1914 in Peoria, Texas to J. Lee and Celia Jane Johnston Reid. In the late 1970's she moved to Hillsboro. She graduated from Hillsboro High School and Hillsboro Junior College and also attended the University of Texas at Austin. As a teacher, she taught school for a few years at Peoria and other schools including Steiner Valley. After teaching, she later worked at the Hill County Tax Office before working at Judy Standefer Chevrolet for 25 years. She was very active in the Peoria Cemetery Association and served as an officer for many years. She was an avid flower gardener and a loving caregiver. Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Adalee White and Celeste Smith; and two brothers, Robert Reid and Miley Reid. She was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro for many years and then joined the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro. Survivors include two nephews, Kenneth Reid and wife, Linda, of Peoria, and Johnny Smith and wife, Barbara, of Dallas; a niece, Jane Monts and husband, Dennis Challman, of Austin; several great-nieces and nephews; many cousins; and a caregiver, Velma Kendricks.
