Alta was born on February 25, 1927 in Graham, the daughter of the late Edward James and Myrtle King Kilpatrick. She married L. J. ?Red? Schlaepfer on April 10, 1948 in Breckenridge and he preceded her in death on April 8, 2005. She worked as an LVN at Kermit Memorial Hospital in Kermit for several years. A woman of many talents, she enjoyed sewing, canning, cooking and sail boating. She made very good biscuits and everyone loved them. An avid fan of Betty Boop and John Wayne she was also a great supporter of the Dallas Cowboys. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Rebecca Lodge and a member of the VFW auxiliary. Alta loved her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Katherine Cole, Mabel Kilpatrick and Dorthy Mae Powers. Survivors include her daughters, Pamela Thornton, Patti Davis, Corine Davis and husband, Mike, Peggy West and husband, Mack, Penny Batey and husband, Willie; brother, E. J. Kilpatrick and wife, John; sisters, Muriel Gandy, Phyllis Dureck and husband, Peter, Jonelle Kilpatrick; 12 grandchildren, Jacob Olin West, John Keith West, Rachel West, Rooster Davis, Phyllis Mc Iver, Alta White, Louis James Davis, E. E. Hawthorne, James Hawthorne, Lisa Hawthorne, Rebecca Teel, Jennifer Ellis and numerous great grandchildren. Memorials: Southern Care Hospice, 1101 Wooded Acres Drive, Waco, TX 76710-4455
