Altha Stapleton

Altha Ray Stapleton, 68 of Aquilla passed away on February 28, 2011 in Waco.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Marshall and Marshall Chapel in Whitney. Interment will follow at New Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.

Altha Ray was born on July 6, 1942 in Aquilla, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Greene and Bessie Ola (Braswell) Tyra. She graduated from Aquilla High School in 1960 as valedictorian of her class. On June 17, 1961 she married Edward Stapleton in the Lebanon United Methodist Church. She had worked as an assistant vice president for 24 years at the First National Bank in Whitney, retiring in 2000. She was a member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed traveling and especially being a part of the ladies bunco group at her church.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Bennie Keith Stapleton on December 25, 1986.

Survivors include her husband, Edward of Aquilla; daughter, Charlotte Stapleton of Aquilla; brothers-in-laws, Howard Stapleton of Hillsboro, James Stapleton and wife Carolyn of Corsicana; niece, Melissa Stapleton of Itasca; nephews, Michael Stapleton and wife Julie of Trophy Club, John Stapleton and wife Yolanda of Robinson; Althas special angels, Alyssa, Zane, Brennan and Mason whom she loved dearly; many cousins and a host of friends.
