Alton was born February 9, 1922 in Whitney, Texas to James D. and Ethel Emery Davenport. After serving in the Coast Guard during the war, he lived and worked in Hillsboro for several years working both as a car salesman and mechanic. In 1956 he went to work for the Austin Company and retired from there in 1982. On September 18, 1950 he married Lou Ellen Hughes. They moved to Waco in 1967. He was a Baptist by faith. After retirement he enjoyed playing his guitar and restoring antique cars. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Ellen; son, John ?Buddy? Hughes; 3 brothers, Marshall, Tommy, and Billy ?T? Davenport; 3 sisters, Lizzie Ross, Jessie McGee and Lucille Allen. Survivors include two children, Doris Webb and husband, Billy, of Lorena and Linda Storrs and husband, Larry, of Waco; a brother, Chester Davenport and wife, Betty, of Tyler; four sisters, Ethel Roberts of Hillsboro, Mildred Sparkman and husband, Euless, of Riesel, Marie Haygood of Riesel, and Ruby Cathey and husband, Doyle, of Hubbard; eight grandchildren: Billie Giles, Belinda Byerly, Terri Redman, Sherri Clanton, Johnny Hughes, Jimmy Hughes, Natalie Storrs , and Allison Storrs; and a number of great and great-great grandchildren.
