Alton Markwardt, 79, of Bynum died Thursday, August 5, 2010, at Providence Health Care Center. Alton was born September 4, 1930 in Brandon son of the late Herman and Emma Maas Markwardt. On September 7, 1930 he was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church by Rev. Gaertner, was confirmed there on May 20, 1945, and married Dorothy Schronk there on November 3, 1951. From 1951 to 1953, Alton served his country in the U. S. Army with the First Armored Division.. During that time, he served 8 months in the Korean War. For many years he worked as a mechanic at Dobbs & Company in Hillsboro and also as a mechanic for Bynum ISD and Hillsboro ISD. Alton was a founding member of the Bynum Volunteer Fire Department and served for many years. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Markwardt of Bynum; son, Alan Markwardt and wife, Phillis, of Hillsboro; daughter, Lori Youngblood of Bynum; and daughter-in-law, Carol Markwardt of Hubbard. Preceding him in death was a son, Donald Markwardt; two brothers; and a sister. Alton is also survived by 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Dalton Markwardt of Hurst; and five sisters, Lillie Johnson of Hillsboro, Adeline Shoppe and Martha Priest both of Houston, LaVerne Rash of Arlington, and Emily Piel of Waco.
