Alvin Harwell

Alvin C. Harwell, 94, of Abbott died Thursday, January 28, 2011, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro.

Graveside services will be held at Noon on Monday, January 31, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro with Rev. Laraine Waughtal officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Monday at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Alvin was born on March 11, 1916 in Abbott to Wilburn Arthur and Mae Belle (Hall) Harwell. After graduating with honors from Abbott High School, he joined the Merchant Marines so that he could come home to help on the family farm. For many years he farmed in Abbott and Brookin and was a rural mail carrier. On June 19, 1955 he married Marilyn Marie Russell in Abbott. He was a member of the Abbott United Methodist Church and later the First United Methodist Church of West.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters, and four brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Harwell of Abbott; son, Glenn L. Harwell of Abbott; three brothers-in-law, Morris Russell and wife, Mary, of Abbott and Lynn Russell and wife, Susan, of Hillsboro; Calvin Tackett and wife, Hazel of Ft. Worth and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
