Amelia O (Olivarez) Montes

Amelia O. Montes, 94, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023, in Hillsboro, Texas. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 am, Monday, July 17, 2023, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors, Hillsboro, Texas, with burial to follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory. Visitation and prayer service will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors, Hillsboro.

Amelia was born March 16, 1929, in Goliad, Texas, to Melicio and Rosaria (Rangel) Olivarez. After growing up in Goliad, she was united in marriage to Juan Montes on November 18, 1946, in Haskell, Texas. They moved to Taft and began their family. Amelia and Juan also lived in Oklahoma, Michigan and finally Lubbock before moving to Hillsboro in 1970. In 1972, she and Juan were the founding pastors of Hill Apostolic Church. Amelia enjoyed cooking, sewing and spending time with her family.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Juan Montes; her daughters, Norma Montes and Ofelia Villalobos; her son, Julio Montes; and her sons-in-law, Alberto Villalobos, Sr., and Isaias Flores, Sr.  She is survived by her children, Elida Flores, Johnny Montes and his wife, Rosa, Armando Montes and his wife, Paula, Robert Montes and his wife, Rebecca; her brothers, Melicio Olivarez and Pete Olivarez; 19 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
