Anna M. Alverson, 92, of Itasca passed away early Sunday morning, February 16, 2020, at Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at First Presbyterian Church in Itasca with Rev. Diane Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Itasca Cemetery.
Anna was born June 11, 1927, in Itasca to Travis and Zelma (Whitfield) Holloway. She grew up in Itasca and was a 1944 graduate of Itasca High School. Following graduation, she worked at Neiman Marcus for a short time before going to work for Hill County Electric for about three years.
On November 29, 1947, Anna was united in marriage to Fred B. Alverson at the Files Valley Church. The couple served as cottage parents at the Presbyterian Children’s Home. They also owned and operated Alverson’s Variety Store in Itasca for many years. Anna would later work at the Itasca High School, Grandview Library, and in retail sales at several clothing stores in Hillsboro.
A member of First Presbyterian Church in Itasca, she was a member of its Ladies Circle and served as an elder. She was also a member of the Itasca Garden Club, Area Art Guild, PTA, and 42 Club.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Fred B. Alverson on October 25, 1996; and one brother, Jack Holloway.
Survivors include her three daughters, Angela Skoczlas and husband, Ken, of Aledo, Marcia Tackett of Burleson, and Lauri Alverson and partner, Rhonda Hermes, of Itasca; four grandchildren, Holly Strickland and fiancé, Randy Perez, Bryan Mahanay and wife, Katrina, Michael Strickland and fiancée, Ashley, and Emily Miller and husband, Rob; five great-grandchildren, Logan, Kylie, Colton, Aaron, and Nolan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
