Anna Mary Brown, 92, died in Lubbock on December 2, 2008. She was born August 29, 1916, in Dallas to Reverend O. N. and Ollie Glass Baucom. In 1932, at age 15, Anna Mary graduated from Lubbock High School with high honors. In 1936, at age 19, she graduated from Texas Tech with the highest honors in all four divisions of the college. She married James Frank Brown in Whitney, Texas, in 1940. They were happily married until his death in 1960. Anna Mary enjoyed a successful teaching career spanning ten years in Whitney and twenty-five in Lubbock. She taught English and Latin at Monterey High School from 1964 to 1986. She was a member of the Lubbock Retired Teachers Association. She was a devoted and active member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church from 1923 forward. She played the piano and sang in the choir. She served as an elder, a Sunday School teacher, and in various other leadership roles. She was a member of the Ollie Baucom Missionary Circle named for her mother. She loved her many friends, some of whom she had known since childhood. She enjoyed reading especially mysteries and Peanuts cartoons and working crossword puzzles. She followed Texas Tech and Monterey sports closely. She is survived by her son Jim Brown of Lubbock, daughter Ann and son-in-law Jim Kline of Dallas, and granddaughter Beth Kline of Nashville. Her family will miss her love, faith, and kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, or to a charity of your choice. A brief memorial, followed by visitation with the family, will be held at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 7702 Indiana Avenue, in Lubbock at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
