Anna Lou Wray, 96, of Nocona died Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at Nocona General Hospital in Nocona.


Anna was born November 2, 1914 in Granfield, OK the daughter of Alva and Lonie (Thompson) Varner. At the age of 17, she moved to Italy, TX where she lived with her aunt and uncle. While living there she met Charlie Wray and they were married on July 14, 1934. The couple bought a farm in 1941 in the Milford area and she lived there until moving to Nocona in 2005, where she was most recently living at the Cherry Street Village.


In 1979, she retired from Ennis Business Forms after 27 years. She was a member of Mertens Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for many, many years and was a very active in the church. Anna was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star in Mertens and was active in the Milford Senior Citizen Center where she enjoyed crocheting and quilting with her friends there. She was an avid vegetable gardener and also had a beautiful rose garden.


Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Charlie Wray on February 24, 1993; daughter, Margaret (Margie) Amon; son, Jerry Wray; two brothers, L. M. and Alva Varner; sister, Marie Board; and great-granddaughter, Janelle Lynn Fuller.


Survivors include her son, Jimmy Wray of Austin; daughter-in-law, Jackie Wray of Waxahachie; brother, Thomas Freddie Varner of Scotsdale, AZ; five grandchildren, Chip Wray and wife, Vickie, of Round Rock, Jana Turner and husband, Paul, of Pflugerville, John Wray and wife, Michele, of Waxahachie, William Fuller and wife, Delanea, of Grandview, and Brett Ray Fuller and wife, Debbie, of Paradise; seven great-grandchildren, Jamison Turner, Morgan Wray, Patrick Wray, Angel Fuller, Amy Fuller, Alex Fuller, and Chaneylee Margaret Fuller; two great-great grandchildren, Trinity and Corbin Griffith; close cousin, Margaret Horton of Milford; and a number of nieces and nephews.
