Annie Dickerson

Annie Louise Dickerson of Whitney, known by most as Louise, departed from this earth early on Resurrection Day, March 31, 2013, to meet Jesus. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney with Dr. Carl Jennings officiating. Burial will follow at Derden Cemetery near Covington. Visitation will be held from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at the funeral home.

Her 101 years of life were filled with many stories of the past. She was born September 2, 1911 in Decatur to William Harlan and Maggie (Ward) Williams. At the age of 2, her dad passed away. A few years later, her mother married her Papa (step-father George P. Simmons), who was sheriff in Hill County in the late 1920's and early 1930's. She had many exciting and interesting stories from the times that the family lived in the family jail quarters in Hillsboro (now the Hillsboro Jail Museum). As a teen, she lived above the Hillsboro Bakery, which belonged to her brother, Al Williams. She said the smell of the baked bread was so tempting.

On June 24, 1934 in Marietta, Oklahoma, she married Buster Simmons Dickerson and they moved to his hometown of Fort Worth. The couple resided there for many years and were members of Rosen Heights Baptist Church. She was honored by the church for serving in the 5 year old’s Sunday school class for 50 years. After her husband’s death, Louise and her sister, Beatrice Carrell, sold their homes in Fort Worth and returned to Hill County in 1992 to share a home together in Whitney. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Whitney.

Also preceding her in death were her mother; step-father; sister, Beatrice (Simmons) Carrell; and two brothers, Al Williams and J. V. Simmons.

Louise is survived by her son, Al Dickerson and wife, Patricia, of Whitney; five grandchildren, Joel Dickerson and wife, Kimberly, Paulette Burnett, Alan Dickerson and wife, Kimberley, Tammy Salles and husband, George, and Jeffrey Thomas and wife, Sarah; ten great-grandchildren, Kohl, Tyler, Tiffany, Katlyn, Josiah, Myka, Madelyn, Chad, Josh, and Emily; sister-in-law, Norma Dickerson; nephew, George Simmons and wife, Pam, and their children; and two nieces, Sharon Loller and children and Amaleta Osborne.
