Archie Hughes

Archie Hughes, 94, of Hillsboro passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2015, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Danny Gilliam and Rev. Ben Hollan officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro.

Archie was born September 18, 1920 in DeRoche, Arkansas to John Henry and Rebecca (Jackson) Hughes. As a young man, he moved to Texas with his family settling in Kilgore. Following his graduation from Kilgore High School, Archie served his country in the United States Army during World War II serving in the Pacific Theater. In 1969, he married Patti Green. For 57 years, he was the owner and operator of Hughes Barber and Beauty Supply where he worked countless hours. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the American Legion.

Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife, Vesta Lee Tate in 1980; four brothers, Vernon, Charlie, Fred, and Dennis Hughes; and two sisters, Fannie Bell Patterson and Lorene Hewitt.

Survivors include his former wife of 43 years, Patti E. Hughes of Hillsboro; two children, John Hughes and wife, Jean, of Mansfield and Juliette Crockett of Garland; three step-children, Kelly Martin, Cindy Ruecher and husband, Bill, and Mike Martin; brother, Wayne Hughes of Port Neches; five grandchildren, Mary Ellen Burch and husband, Greg, Shannon Link and husband, Jared, Rebecca Murphy, Randy Crockett, and Karen Harris and husband, Pete; several great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.
