Arline N. (Nichols) Hunter

Arline N. Hunter passed away Monday, December 19, 2022, in Hillsboro, Texas. She was born March 15, 1921, to Reverend and Mrs. James T. Nichols in Millers Creek, North Carolina.

She was 101 years old.  She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Arline is preceded in death by her parents; her five siblings; her husband, Otto Bryan, who died in 1957; her second husband, James “Et” Hunter, who died in 2011; and her son, Otto “Bob” Bryan, Jr., who died in 2004.  She is survived by her daughter, Anita Bryan Gilley and husband John of Hillsboro, Texas; her stepson, James Hunter, Jr. and wife Cathy, of Concord, North Carolina; grandchildren, Lisa Bryan Collier and husband, Scott of Mt. Holley, North Carolina, Jeannette Gilley Hadlock and husband, Tim of Phoenix, Arizona, and Scott Gilley and wife, Angie of Roanoke, Texas; and three great-grandchildren.

She loved the Lord and wanted to just fall asleep and wake in heaven, where she would have a wonderful reunion with all who had gone before her.  And more and more she said she was ready to go “home” and wondered why the Lord had left her here for so long.

When she and Et moved to Florida, she took up golf and excelled in that sport.  She won numerous tournaments and was the matriarch of “her girls” because she was older.  Arline was also a duplicate bridge player, winning her Lifetime Masters at the age of 90.  She had a generous and loving spirit and all who knew her, loved her.  She seemed to love everyone else too and they knew it, she loved with a genuine love.
