Arthur E. Kelm, 92, formerly of Bynum, passed away Saturday morning, September 6, 2014, at Town Hall Estates in Whitney. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Michael Nemec officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Malone. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Arthur was born on April 2, 1922, in Malone. One of ten children born to Otto William and Lena Augusta (Maass) Kelm, he grew up in Malone and attended Salem Lutheran school before graduating from Malone High School. As a young man, he moved to Dallas and while there served in the U.S. Army Ready Reserves.
On his birthday, April 2, in 1954, he and Ramona May McNee were united in marriage at Grace Lutheran Church in Dallas. Arthur served as a letter carrier for the U. S. Postal Service for more than 20 years. In 1970, the couple moved to Bynum and he continued to commute to his work in Dallas for several years.
Bynum suited Arthur just fine. He could farm, garden, raise cattle, take on do-it-yourself projects, and tend to his immaculately kept yard. A good carpenter and painter, there wasn’t much he couldn’t repair. He was an avid reader, reading his Bible and keeping up with current events every day to satisfy his thirst for knowledge. For recreation, he loved to cheer for his beloved Dallas Cowboys. His faith was very important to him and he was a devoted member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.
Preceding him in death were his parents; step-mother, Esther Kelm; wife, Ramona; son, Larry Kelm; and seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by his three children, Donna Rogers of Antlers, OK, David L. Kelm and wife, Tracy, of Whitney and Mary Kelm of California; a brother, Martin Kelm and wife, Darlene, of Malone; a sister, Ruth Schedler and husband, Don, of California; 11 grandchildren, Scott Markwardt, Sandy Cox, Shannon Rogers, Mike Kelm, Chris Kelm, David R. Kelm, Angela Seale, Shawn Seale, Jakeob Ray, Jared Lee, and Bryan Kelm; and many loving, great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 915 Corsicana Highway, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
