Atlas V. Nelson, 90, of Hillsboro passed away Thursday, December 18, 2014, at Homestead Nursing and Rehab Center in Hillsboro. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro with Mr. David Crumpton officiating.
Born April 30, 1924 in Whitney, she was the daughter of Calvin and Columbia (Ackerman) Jean. She lived most of her life in Hill County. On December 21, 1946 she was united in marriage to Virgil Nelson. He preceded her in death on January 26, 2001. For 18 years, she was employed at Malouf Manufacturing as a seamstress and manager. She enjoyed quilting and made quilts for all of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, camping, and spending time at the lake. Atlas was a member of West Side Church of Christ and College Hill Church of Christ, both in Hillsboro.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, J. D., John, Burrel, and Bill Jean; three sisters, Wanda Raulston, Berta Self, and Motee Ronning; and a grandchild, Kelly Crumpton.
Survivors include her children, Larry Nelson and wife, Bertha Marie, of Hillsboro, Mary Nelson Bryant of Pflugerville, and Margreat Nelson Crumpton and husband, David, of Arlington; five grandchildren, Wayne Nelson, Brandi Foster and husband, Zach, Jason Bryant and wife, Katie, Casey Bryant, and Matthew Crumpton and wife, Andreia; eight great-grandchildren, Brayden, Benjamin, and Jackson Beavers, Elliot and Dylan Bryant, and Eva, Lainey, and Graham Crumpton; and a sister-in-law, Mary Nelson of Peoria.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
