Barbara Katherine (Hodge) Jean

Barbara Katherine Jean, age 85, of Hillsboro passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at Town Hall Estates in Hillsboro.   Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2020, at New Woodbury Cemetery in Woodbury with Rev. Jim Patton officiating. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2020, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Barbara was born March 6, 1935, in Hillsboro to John Wesley and Johnnie Catherine (Files) Hodge. She grew up in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School. After graduation, she then attended Texas Women’s College in Denton. Barbara was united in marriage to Thomas William Jean on March 19, 1957 in Hillsboro and he preceded her in death on October 13, 1998. For many years Barbara worked for the Andrew’s Café as a waitress. She then worked at Hill College for 37 years in accounts payable, retiring in August 2005. After retirement, she was a volunteer for H.I.M and she enjoyed selling Avon too. Barbara also enjoyed reading, playing bingo, and traveling with her sister. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Central Christian Church in Hillsboro.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Barbara is survived by her children, Kandace Claridy and husband, Bobby of Jal, New Mexico, Gladys Sullins and husband, Randy of Hillsboro, Debbie Clark and husband, Steve of Hurst, and Sarah Dawkins of Whitney; sister, Louise Howard of Paradise; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy Clark and wife, Tammy, Nicole Burkett and husband, David, Jamie Hallmark and husband, Tyson, Jackie Thompson and husband, John, Katie Tester and husband, Josh, Sarah Camp and husband, Mike, Clint Sullins and wife, Ashley, Tommy Dawkins, Scott Clark, and Lindsay Valencia and husband, David; 25 great-grandchildren; nieces, Dee Ann Witherspoon and husband, Bubba and Missy Stephens and husband, Sonny; nephew, Johnnie Kennemer and wife, Sue Ellen; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
