Barabra Mitchell, age 76 of Whitney passed away peacefully in her home on January 12, 2024. She was born on August 7, 1947, in Dallas, Texas to John and Nelwyne (Philley) Hanely. Barbara was united in marriage to William “Riley” Mitchell on December 25, 1963. She worked examining circuit boards by hand when the electronics industry was just getting started and she got to meet people from all over the world. Barbara also worked for McDonalds from 1988, starting as a part-time cashier, until her retirement in 2002, as regional manager. Barabra loved working and she did not stay retired very long, when she decided to work for Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney. She loved taking care of people, whether it was her siblings, her husband, children, grandchildren, or her co-workers, she loved them all. Barbara loved her family and friends dearly and cherished getting together with them whenever she could. She was very smart and optimistic, and loved life.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved grandmother, her husband, and 3 brothers, John Hanley, Mike Holley, and Danny Holley.
Barbara is survived by her 2 sisters, Jana Tyrrell of Colorado and Sara Tykodi of Texas; brother, Patrick Holley of California; 2 daughters, Frankie Mitchell of Oklahoma and Sheri Mitchell and husband Bobby of Whitney; 5 grandchildren, James Mitchell and wife Jolene of Oklahoma, Amanda (Kash) Cumbie and wife Bishope of Oklahoma, Michael Hubbard, Bobby Hubbard III, and Christopher Hubbard all of Whitney; 3 great grandchildren, Whitney of Oklahoma, Audree of Whitney, and Thomas Ethan of Oklahoma, a set of twin great-great grandchildren, Artemis and Athena of Oklahoma, and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and friend and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
