On January 26, 1930, Barbara Etta York was born in Olney Texas to her parents, Essie Milner Reeves and James S. Whitney. She had a brother Tinker Ray Reeves. She met Floyd Junior York “Junior” and they were married on 4-9-49. She became his princess. He loved her and spoiled her and eventually they had 2 sons, Floyd Rollin York and Rickey Joe York. She had her 3 “boys” around her to spoil her and make her life complete. But she doted on them also and had her big extended family through Junior. Junior had 8 brothers and sisters and having a big family that accepted her in their fold unconditionally made her whole. They moved to the South Oak Cliff area, where their boys went to school at W.D. Carter High School. Once their boys graduated and were married, they moved from the Red Oak area to Laguna Park (Whitney area) and built a house close to the lake. Barbara Etta worked at Plitt Theater as a secretary and Junior was a police officer and eventually was convinced to take a safer job as a truckdriver. They were happy and life was great. They went to church and had some of the York family close by and their sons started their own families. Rollin has 3 children, Jeremy York, Garrett Danford and Whitney Milner. Rick had 3 children, Angela Dawn York, Cody Joe York and Travis Matthew-Louie York. In the 1980's they had a fire that burned their house to the ground. Arson was suspected and they lost one of their dogs in the fire. Rollin and Rick helped them rebuild their home. On May 1, 1994 she lost her beloved husband, Junior, at an early age to cancer and lived alone in Whitney, driving herself on trips with friends, mowing her yard, and had a hot meal for family whenever they came, and did this until the age of 89. She loved to cook (Southern cooking). She was famous for her red beans and made them special for the family. Even after moving in with Rick and Teresa she took over the kitchen as her domain, cooking him breakfast every morning and cleaning the kitchen. She accepted their dogs as her own and wanted them in her room. Even insisting they needed better beds for her room. She loved to surround herself with family and friends.
Barbara is survived by her two loving sons , Rollin York and Rick York; 6 grandkids, Angela York, Jeremy York, Garrett Danford, Cody York, Whitney Milner, Travis York; 12 great-grandkids, Macaela Malone, Myia Range, Gavin Milner, Malakai Nguyen, Jax Bailey, Emma Amescua, Riley York, Landry Milner, Memphis York, Maverick York, Mason York, Miles York; and 3 great-great grandkids, Kasen Bennett, Nylaa Garza, Lylah Garza.
