B.E. Berryhill

B.E. “Gene” Berryhill, of Whitney, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at a Clifton hospital. Requiem Mass will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, February, 6, 2013, at Our Lady of the Lake Episcopal Church in Laguna Park with Father Michael Heidt officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 5, from 6-8 PM at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney. Entombment will be at Bishop Mason Mausoleum in Flower Mound, Texas.

Gene was born on October 5, 1933, in Dallas, Texas, to the late E.P. and Vernie (Bellamy) Berryhill. He married Margaret Blake on August 27, 1954 in Grand Prairie, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Science and his Master of Education degrees from North Texas State University. He was a long-time educator and worked at Grand Prairie ISD for 33 years before retiring. Gene worked 11 years as a classroom teacher, 2 years as Director of Personnel and 20 years as an elementary principal at three different schools. He had the privilege of opening two new schools, Rayburn and Zavala.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing and volunteering at his church, working on his computer and in his yard. He was member of Our Lady of the Lake Episcopal Church in Laguna Park, and served as treasurer for many years. He lived all of his life in Grand Prairie before moving to Whitney in 1991.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Berryhill.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Berryhill; sons Ken Berryhill and wife Diane of Huron, Ohio, and Glenn Berryhill and wife, Wendy, of Waco; five grandchildren, Jordan Berryhill and wife Tori, Alison Tyren and husband, Robbie of Medina, Ohio, Blake Berryhill and Brett Berryhill or Huron, Ohio, Karina Kinney of Waco; two great-grandchildren, Zoe Tyren and Wyatt Tyren; sister-in-law, Ruth Berryhill of Plano; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
