Ben was the son of Jim Tandy and Ethel Fay Dial Barnard. He grew up in the Clarendon area of West Texas. During World War II he served in the U.S. Air Force. While living in Dallas, he owned and operated Trinity Electric. An accomplished craftsman, he built 4 houses himself. Ben also built 2 boats from scratch and assembled an Archer kit car. He was a pilot and also raised and raced horses. He was of the Methodist faith and was a Mason. Preceding him in death were his parents and 2 sisters, Mary Ella Shaffer and Rubie Lorene Heidel. He is survived by one sister, Julia Kathryn McGee of Groom, and several nieces and nephews.
