Benton Bearden


Benton was the son of Loyd Benton and Ollie Jane Spear Bearden, Sr. A graduate of Hillsboro High School, he lived in Hill County most of his life. He married Melba Jean Porter on July 16, 1948 in Waco, Texas. While working as a self-employed mechanic, Benton ran Bearden's Garage just east of Hillsboro for 60 years. Also, he had the Moline Agency and Gehl Agency in Hillsboro. Preceding him in death were his parents and a step-son, Ronald Yarber. Survivors include: Wife, Melba Jean Bearden of Hillsboro; Daughter, Sharon Poldrack and husband Leon of Midlothian; Granddaughter, Tammie Floyd and husband Dave of Midlothian; Grandson, Rodney Poldrack and wife Summer of Dallas; Granddaughter, Kathie Ross and husband Clay of Topeka, Kansas; 5 Great Grandchildren, Dylan, Harley, and Travis Floyd of Midlothian, and Shelby and Bailey Ross of Topeka, Kansas; 2 Brothers, W.O. Toots Bearden and wife Juanell of Hillsboro, and Barney Bearden and wife Norma Lee of Hillsboro; many nieces and nephews; Brother-in-law, Clyde McDuffee of Ballinger; and Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Homer and Oleta Fuller of Whitney.
