Bernie Lee Jackson, 89, passed away on November 26, 2022, at Forum Parkway Health and Rehabilitation in Bedford, Texas. Visitation and memorial service will be held from 9:00am-11:00am on December 2, 2022, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors, Hillsboro, Texas. Burial will follow at 12:00pm at New Woodbury Cemetery.
He was born on January 20, 1933, in Butler, Missouri to Bernie Clements Jackson and Lelia Pearl Gregory Jackson. Bernie grew up in Butler, Missouri and graduated from Butler High School. Bernie married Patricia Maxine Horner in 1954 in Butler, Missouri. They were happily married for forty-nine years. He was drafted into the United States Army and served for two years. He began work for Jack E. Cooper Transportation as a Haul Truck Driver and worked there for forty years until he retired. Bernie was a member of Hillsboro and Santo Masonic Lodge, and the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro, Texas. After he retired, he volunteered as a fire fighter for the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department, played the drums for the Woodbury Grand Old Opry with his wife, raised cattle, spent time in his garden, grew hay, and hosted countless get togethers. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, being outdoors, hunting, playing music, and spending time with his family. He participated in the Grand Lodge of Texas for sixty-eight years. As a Mason he received the title of Master Mason, Chapter and Council Freemason, York Rite, and Commandery of the Knight Templar.
Bernie was preceded in death by Bernie Clements Jackson, Lelia Pearl Gregory Jackson, Patricia Maxine Jackson, Viola Ferguson, Beulah Jackson, and Bertha Jackson.
Bernie is survived by his children, Alan Lee Jackson, Ronald Dean Jackson, Denise Ann Jackson, and Jimmy Dale Jackson; their spouses Sandy Hill Kirby, Evelyn Jackson, and Carol Lea Jackson; nine grandkids and seventeen great-grandkids.
