Bettie Rue Black, 82, of San Antonio passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Parklane West Healthcare Center in San Antonio. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2019, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro with Rev. Melissa Graham of Line Street United Methodist Church in Hillsboro officiating. Visitation will be held from Noon-1:00 p.m. Friday prior to service time at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Born August 26, 1936, in Iredell, she was the daughter of Virgil and Ruth Huckaby. She grew up in Hillsboro and was a 1954 graduate of Hillsboro High School, where she was a cheerleader for the Hillsboro Eagles. She later attended Four C’s Business College in Waco.

On September 30, 1955, Bettie was united in marriage to Richard W. Black in Hillsboro. A devoted wife of a career United States Air Force Colonel, Bettie traveled all over the world with Richard during his military career. She was an executive secretary for USAA Insurance Company in San Antonio for 10 years before retiring in 1990.

She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and was an avid animal lover, especially to dogs. Bettie was of the Methodist faith.

Preceding her in death were her parents and sister, Doris Eubanks.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Richard W. Black of San Antonio; niece, Carol Lewis and husband, Al of Waxahachie; and her pet companion, Bella.
