Betty J. Baker, 93, of Whitney, passed away on December 9, 2014, at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 11, 2014, under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors of Whitney, at the Aledo Brown Cemetery in Aledo, with Mr. Rick Pinner officiating She will lie in state at the funeral home beginning at 5 PM, Wednesday, December 10, 2014.

Betty was born on June 18, 1921, in Fort Worth, to Odell and Ethel Mae (Morton) Averitt. On November 25, 1939, she married Harry Stine Baker and he preceded her in death on November 13, 1990.

A rancher, she enjoyed farming and ranching and especially being outdoors tending to her cattle. She also enjoyed working in her yard, keeping it nice and taking care of her roses. Making chocolate pies was another of her favorite pastimes.

She was a member of King Memorial United Methodist Church in Whitney.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Mildred King; and a son-in-law, Rayford Strickland.

She is survived by daughters Dottie Strickland of Hillsboro and Linda Stokes and husband, Jim of Olney; 4 granddaughters, 7 great-grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
