Betty Sue Birdwell, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, even great-great- grandmother, passed away April 9, 2025, surrounded by family and love. She was the foundation of our family-our steady rock, our calm in every storm, and our constant source of joy.
She was born December 9, 1934, in Hillsboro to Clyde Eli and Mary Pearl Mitchell Crisp Harris. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1951. On June 16, 1952, she married Robert Donald "Bob" Birdwell, and they were happily married for fifty-three years.
A proud member of the Hillsboro Garden Club, Betty held many leadership roles over the years. Her commitment to public service was evident in her twenty-year tenure on the Hillsboro City Council, where she served her town with integrity and heart. She also gave her time and love to CASA, advocating for children with the same passion and care she gave her own family.
Faith was a central part of her life. As a member of Church On The Hill, she found strength, fellowship, and a place to share her generous spirit.
She loved to travel, paint, and play dominos with friends and family. She never missed an episode of The Price is Right, a show she finally saw live in February, an experience she cherished. Her artistic soul was always a few steps ahead of her time, especially in fashion and design. She loved everything bright and colorful, just like her personality.
She didn't know a stranger. Her smile could light up a room, and her adventurous spirit was contagious. She cared deeply and loved fiercely-for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. To them, and to so many others, she was lovingly known as "Memaw", "MowMow", and "Mowme"
Her legacy lives on in every story we share, every piece of art she created, every flower she planted, and every heart she touched.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Birdwell; brother, Mitchell Eli Crisp; and her parents.
She leaves behind her children, Tokey Birdwell and wife, Sharlyn, Bobett Birdwell, and Robert Birdwell and wife, Sheila; eight grandchildren; thirteen great- grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She will be deeply missed-but never forgotten.
