Betty Jean Brackett

Betty Jean Brackett, 91, of The Woodlands passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021, at her residence.  Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2021, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro.  Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro.  Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Monday prior to service time.  Facial masks and social distancing are encouraged.

Betty Jean was born on June 11, 1929, in Abbott to Albert Lee and Elizabeth M. (Harvey) Harris.   She attended school in Bynum and Hillsboro with Willie Nelson and his sister, Bobbie, Dr. Red Duke, and Bob Bullock and was a graduate of Hillsboro High School.  She went on to attend Hillsboro Junior College, where she was named Miss Hillsboro Junior College.   While attending Hillsboro Junior College, Betty Jean met Jack Daniel Brackett and they were married on September 1, 1947.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in The Woodlands.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and siblings, Mildred Provence, Gladys Harris, William Cannon Harris, Ben Harris, and James Lindell Harris, recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor and Purple Heart which is on display at the Texas Heritage Museum on the Hill College Campus in Hillsboro.

Survivors include her son, James Brackett of The Woodlands; grandson, Erik Brackett of San Francisco, CA; son, Bart Brackett and wife, Tonya, of The Woodlands; granddaughter, Lezlie Herm and husband, Kyle, of The Woodlands; great-grandchildren, Sloane Anzlie Herm, Lane Brackett Herm, and Eden Faye Herm, all of The Woodlands.

Memorials may be made to the Texas Heritage Museum at Hill College in Hillsboro, TX.
