Betty Ellis

Betty Gay Orfield Ellis, 71, of Whitney, formerly of Dallas, passed away in the early morning hours of September 12, 2018 of metastatic breast cancer. The family will hold a memorial service at 11a.m. on September 29, 2018, at Brandon Cemetery in Brandon, TX, with Pastor Roy V. Russell officiating. A private burial will follow.

Betty was born on March 16, 1947, in Dallas, to the late Barney and Grace Grant (Bybee) Orfield. She grew up in Dallas and went to S.S. Connor Jr. High and W.W. Samuell High School. It was here that she made many long-lasting friendships. Many of them were very supportive to her and the family through her illness and after her passing.

She worked in the commercial and private insurance industry for more than 45 years.

A cheerful, happy and giving person, Betty often volunteered in the community. All those she met remember her smile, laughter and great sense of humor. She loved genealogy and traced her family roots back to Ireland and Scotland. She also loved jigsaw puzzles, watching old movies, movie theaters, spending time with her school friends and assisting in organizing their events.

Her greatest love of all was the gift of her three girls and adored them with all the love she could give. She was very proud of them in every possible way, especially when the grandkids started arriving, and then the great-grands. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday gathering when the entire family was together. Happiness surrounded her.

She is survived by her daughters, Wendy Staab Anderson and husband, Dane of Whitney, Sandy Staab Simkin and husband, Todd of the Woodlands, and JoAnne Staab Sweeney and husband, Patrick of Portland, OR; a sister, Linda Orfield Sidwell of Hopkins, MN; grandchildren, Lindsey Anderson Davis, Kyle Anderson and wife, Amanda, Josh Anderson, Brittany, Ty and Cole Browning; great-grandchildren, Caden and Leighton Davis; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and best friends.

Memorials may be made to Town Hall Estates, 101 San Marcos St., Whitney, TX 76692.
