Betty Ward

Betty Ward, 85, of Whitney, went to her forever home with her Lord on, June 17, 2019, at Hilltop Nursing Home in Meridian. Funeral services, under the direction of Marshall and Marshall in Whitney, will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at First Church of the Nazarene in Whitney, with Pastor Greg Johnson and Mr. Hubert Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Betty was born on July 1, 1933, in the Bethel Community of Hill County to Walter and Odessa (Lee) Mahurin. She attended and graduated from schools in Hillsboro. On August 12, 1951, Betty married Walton Ward. She and Walton made their home in Fort Worth where he worked as a brick layer and she worked as a secretary for insurance for many different institutions.

After they retired, they moved back to Whitney in 1974, enjoying their land, raising cattle and gardening. They both loved to fish, play dominoes and go camping. Betty and Walton were active in their church and loved serving their Lord whenever asked. She loved to cook and could rival Betty Crocker with her pies, cakes and cookies.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband.

Survivors include her three children, Winston Ward and Pam Bean, both of Whitney and Chad Ward and wife Sonya of Cleburne; four grandchildren, Jason Huish and wife, Heather of Aquilla, Sloan Tobin and husband, Kevin of Rowlett, and Jacy and Breanna Ward of Cleburne; four great-grandchildren, Hailey Myers and Paisley Huish, and Riley and Ryker Tobin.
