Betty Laverne Smart Watson, 74, of Hillsboro passed away on March 27, 2010 in Waco. Betty was born on October 28, 1935 in Gainsville, the daughter of the late Otho Alphonso and Dessie Lee Campbell Smart. After graduation from Birdville High School, Betty worked for Bell Reproduction in Fort Worth where she met her future husband, Don C. Watson. They were married on December 24, 1953 and were married 55 years prior to his death on July 28, 2009. They had one son, Don C. Skeeter Watson, Jr., born November 18, 1954 in Fort Worth. She worked all of her life as a bookkeeper and owned and operated Hillsboro Hobby Shop in the 1970's. Betty was a fine artist, and along with her husband, an avid golfer. She bragged that of the two, only she had ever made a hole in one. For the last 40 years she had lived in Peoria raising boer goats. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Also preceding her in death were her three sisters, Thada Ruth Carter, Otha Lee Bastable and Janie Sue Smart. Survivors include her son, Don C. Skeeter Watson, Jr. of Martindale; and two appreciated and loved friends, Heather Amis and Christina Marmino. Memorials: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105
