Bettye Sims, affectionately known as “MeMaw” went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 10, 2012. Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 1st Baptist Church in Whitney with Dr. Carl Jennings officiating and interment in Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, November 12, 2012 from 7P.M. to 9 P.M. at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.
Bettye was born on October 15, 1932 in Fort Worth Texas, to the late Robert G. Robbins and Geneva (Phipps) Robbins. Bettye and Harry Jr. were married on February 20, 1952, and she later became an employee at Farmers Hardware Store in Whitney, now known as Sims Ace Home Center. The couple shared a lifetime of real love and companionship that set an example of unconditional love and devotion to each other and the Lord. Family and friends often said that Harry and Bettye were joined at the hip.
She was completely devoted to the Whitney Community from her teen years and throughout the remainder of her life. As a member of the First Baptist Church , she sang in the choir and shared her God given talents and passion playing the organ and piano. She prepared many Sunday school lessons and taught them to many first and second graders throughout the years, all to Glorify the Lord.
Everyone who knew Bettye knows that she had a special gifted talent to decorate for many occasions which she demonstrated in her home, special events in the community and in the gift shop of their business that she loved so much.
Bettye was one of the founding members /officers of the Whitney Hospital Auxiliary where she served until the late 1990's and was actively involved in the Whitney Downtown Merchants Association, Texas Federation of Republican Women along with many other clubs and organizations.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, Harry Sims Jr.; one son Paul and his wife Donna of Whitney; grandchildren, Allyson Cliett and husband Rory of Whitney, Kristen Miller and husband Chris of Whitney; Kari Sims of Southlake, and Josh Sims and wife Cara of Woodway . Great grandchildren; Ethan Sessums, Kennedy Cliett and Carson Miller all of Whitney.
