Bill Mills, Sr

Bill Mills, Sr., 88, of Whitney passed away at his residence on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at the White Bluff Chapel near Whitney. The committal service will be at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving at 3:00 p.m. following the Chapel service. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.

Bill was born on August 7, 1924 in Cleburne to Roy and Winelle (Allen) Mills. He grew up in Abilene and joined the Marines when he was 16 years old. On June 12, 1945, Bill married June Stamps. After serving with the Marines, he worked in the oil fields for a while before joining the Abilene Police Department. Mr. Mills left the police department and started his own moving business before retiring in 1981. The couple moved to Horseshoe Bay after his retirement and Bill became a Constable for Llano County. He was later elected a Justice of the Peace for the county. In 2000, he and his wife moved to White Bluff.

He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman. College football was his favorite sport to keep up with and watch as well as the Cowboys. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, Irving I.S.D. School Board in the 1960's, Board of Southwest Bank & Trust, Board of Southwest Warehouse Association, and White Bluff Chapel in Whitney.

Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Carole Ann Castleberry; and sister, Anita Kitchens.

Survivors include his wife, June Mills of Whitney; son, Bill Mills, Jr. and wife, Becky, of Coppell; two brothers, Dr. Ralph Mills and wife, Sue, of Huntsville and Pastor J. Paul Mills and wife, Nancy, of Carrollton; sister, Meta Mason of Irving; eight grandchildren, Joey, Casey, Hampton, Lindsay, Matthew, Joshua, Jacob, and Chase; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and his caregiver, Laura Santos.
