Billiajene Brumit

Billiajene Brumit, 92, of Whitney, passed away on May 7, 2016, in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney, with Pastor Nolen Partridge, officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery in Sweetwater. She will lie in state on Tuesday all day at the funeral home.

Billiajene was born on August 8, 1923, in Lake City, Arkansas, to John and Nora (Collins) Sutterfield. On July 18, 1940, she married Virgle Brumit and he preceded her in death on June 19, 1996. In the 1940's she moved to Texas, Colorado City and Sweetwater and then to East Texas in 1962 before moving to Whitney in 1982 where they were tomato farmers. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, and a son, Virgle Brumit, Jr., on May 2, 1955.

Survivors include children, Fred Brumit of Oklahoma, Ted Brumit of Whitney, Henry Brumit, Barbara Brumit-Knight of Oklahoma, Wanda Brumit-Hughes of Tyler, Debra Brumit-King of Justin and Robert L. Brumit of Bedford; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Vern Sutterfield and wife, Becky of Tye.
