Billie Doret Tiernan was born on July 15,1933 in Waco, Texas to parents Hansel Kellum Hill and Lois Smith Hill, and passed away in Arlington,Texas on June 29, 2013. There will be a graveside service at the Smith Bend Coon Creek Cemetery at 12 Noon, Wednesday, July 3, 2013. The family will greet friends and relatives at the J.D. Vaughn house, Laguna Park, Texas immediately following the service. Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
Billie is survived by her three children, daughter, Jo Beth Tiernan, daughter, Lou Richards and husband, Don, and son, Tom Tiernan and wife, Jill. She is further survived by her three granddaughters, Adell Nolen and husband, Jordan, Alyse Richards, and Virgina Tiernan,and also great-granddaughter, Lucy Nolen. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Jim Vaughn and nephews Damon Vaughn and Rodney Vaughn and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Lt. Colonel F. T. “Zeke” Tiernan and her sister, Nelda Vaughn.
Billie graduated from Waco High School with future Texas Governor and friend Anne Richards and attended Baylor University. After marrying in Waco, she and her husband Lieutenant Tiernan were posted to Cambridgeshire, England, and later to many U.S. bases, retiring in Arlington. Billie was an avid bridge player, and a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who never met a stranger. Having lived all over the country and abroad, Billie was a true Texan at heart and loved most spending time with her family at their farm in Smith Bend.
The family would like to express their gratitude to their sister Jo Beth Tiernan and to caregiver Shalor Marcus for taking such wonderful care of Billie.
