Billy “Rabbit” Elmore, 80, formerly of Mertens passed away Monday morning, November 7, 2016, at Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation in Italy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Mertens with Dr. Dennis Wiles and Rev. Jake Culver officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery in Mertens. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Billy was born April 15, 1936 in Mertens to Bill and Essie (Yarbrough) Elmore. He was a triplet and they were put on display at the State Fair as youngsters. The triplets were also furnished milk for the first year of their life by the Pet Milk Company. A life-long resident of Mertens, he attended schools there and in Frost. From an early age, Billy loved to farm and did so his entire life. Every time that it rained, you could find Rabbit with a pole in his hand fishing on a creek. He also enjoyed playing 42. A member of First Baptist Church in Mertens, Billy served as a deacon and song-leader and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters, Frances Bell and Betty Cox.

Survivors include his three children, Debora Elmore and Wayne Elmore, both of Mertens, and Beverly Ballew and husband, Don, of Frost; three brothers, Harold Elmore of HEB, Kenneth Elmore of Kennedale, and Bobby Elmore of Waxahachie; three sisters, Doris McClanahan and husband, Lloyd, of Olney, Laverne Walles and husband, Jesse, of Orange, and Luann Kyte and husband, Harley, of Whitney; two grandchildren, Cody Ballew and wife, Marcy, of Frost and Caleb Ballew and wife, Sarah, of College Station; three great-grandchildren, Emory Ballew, Grace Ballew, and Owen Ballew; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 158, Mertens, TX 76666.
