Billy Joe Herring, 81, of Arlington, passed away on April 10, 2014, in Arlington. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 14, 2014, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney with Maurice Janke, officiating. Interment will follow at Whitney Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home before the service on Monday.
Billy Joe was born on July 22, 1932, in Whitney, to Houston and Delma (Gravitt) Herring. He grew up in Whitney but moved to California before returning to Texas and moving to Burleson in 1980. He served in the Korean War in the U.S. Marine Corps. As a grader operator in road construction, he worked in both California and Texas. On August 2, 2003, he married Linda Barnwell. Billy Joe was a ham radio operator and enjoyed fishing. He also restored a model A car and enjoyed driving it in parades.
He was preceded in death by a step-son, Jimmy Herring, one sister, Mildred Wall and two brothers, Raby and Travis Herring.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Barnwell; children, Mike Herring, Jim Herring, Linda (Herring) Janke, and husband, Maurice, John Herring and David Herring and wife, Misty; step-children, Wendy Barnwell and husband, Marty and Tracey Benson and husband, Pat; 11 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
