Billy Sawyer

Billy Morris Sawyer, 80, of Whitney passed away January, 6, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney. Officiating will be Rev. Arthur Mozon and Mark Hancock. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney, Texas. Burial will be at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro.
Billy was born on Aprii,18, 1932 in Mt. Calm, Texas, to the late John and Meryl ( Spink) Sawyer. Billy grew up in Mt. Calm, Texas and graduated Mt. Calm High School, he joined the Air Force and served in Korean War, after the war he went to work at General Tire. On August 18, 1957, he married Bobbie Magee and she preceded him in death on March 3, 2011. Billy also worked as an air traffic controller for the United States Government for 32 years before retiring. He served two terms as Mayor of Whitney and also served on the Whitney School Board. Billy was an avid golfer and was a big fan of Baylor Athletics. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister. He was a member of the Prairie Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Ruthie Jones and husband, Jimmy, of Blum; son, Mike Sawyer and Michelle Kettler of Whitney; daughter-in-law Patricia Sawyer of Whitney; grandchildren, Melissa Bailey and husband, Chris of Grandview, Erik Montes and wife, Lacy of Whitney, Tiffany Sawyer of Whitney, Jacob Sawyer of Grandview; Great-grandchildren, Sydney Bailey, Jordan Montes, Ally Montes, Robert Montes, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Odyssey Hospice,2001 Bates Dr. #400, Waxahachie, Texas 75167-4826.
