Billye Smith Cook, 89, of Emory, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at her residence.. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Whitney Memorial Park in Whitney with Rev. Eddie Booth officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.
Billye was born on January 18, 1928, in Whitney, to William and Stella (Essary) Smith. After graduating from Whitney High School in 1945, she married Weldon Cook on June 30, 1946 and they lived in Meridian, but eventually settled in the Dallas area until her husband’s retirement. He preceded her in death on December 2, 1995.
The past few years she resided at Lake Fork. Both she and her husband loved to fish – catch and release. She loved her iris garden and was known for it. She loved to attend garage sales and she was an avid collector of coins, Precious Memories figurines, stamps and Christmas tree pins. A dedicated homemaker, she also collected recipes.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a brother, Leon “Chili” Smith, and a sister, Hazel Smith Epps.
Survivors include a sister, Opal Smith Welch of Carrollton and several nieces and nephews including Stanley and Yvonne Smith of Duncanville.
