Bobbe Jane Stieler was born on September 16, 1932 in Comfort, TX. Her parents, Herbert and Elizabeth, owned a dairy farm. As an only child she helped her parents on the farm and also attended school in Comfort. She graduated from Comfort High School at the age of 16 having skipped a year of high school and still managed to graduate as salutatorian of her class. She attended Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, TX and Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX immediately after high school on a full scholarship. She eventually graduated from Texas State University in San Marcus, TX with a BA degree in education. She taught elementary school for 24 years in both Texas and New Mexico. She continued to substitute teach several years in Whitney, TX. Teaching was a very meaningful and important part of her life. Bobbe showed a natural musical talent at a young age. She started playing pieces by ear on the piano at the age of eleven, so her parents decided they better get her a piano and she also took piano lessons. As children her son and daughter, Stewart and Ann Beth, use to love to hear their mom play the piano and sing in the evenings after the dishes were done. Bobbe loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. She especially loved singing in church. Anyone who knew Bobbe also knew she loved animals. In fact her husband, Jim, said he pretty much had to give up hunting (a passion of his) because it upset Bobbe so much. They had numerous pets through the years, dogs and cats, and loved them all. Many of them were rescue dogs, and any stray cat that ventured on their property was sure to get a good meal. Bobbe was an active member of the Church of Christ and combined this with her love of teaching by teaching bible classes and children’s classes for 25 years. She remained active in the church for as long as her health allowed. Bobbe married the love of her life, James Fowler, on March 18th, 1977 in Durant Oklahoma. They had both finally found their soul mates forever. They both enjoyed traveling. One of their most memorable trips was taking their motor home to Alaska in which they were accompanied all the way to Canada by their good friends Joe and Christine Elrod. But what they treasured the most were the family gatherings, especially at Christmas time. Many times there were 25- 30 people at these gatherings; children, grandchildren, great grandchild, and for many years also their good friends Dalton and Donnie Driver.
Bobbe passed away on January 29th, 2024 at her home in Whitney, TX. Jim was with her until the end.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Elizabeth Stieler, and her oldest son and his wife, Stewart and Virginia Nimitz.
She is survived by her loving husband, James Fowler; her daughter and her husband, Ann Beth and Shane Abel; her son and his wife, Greg and Karen Fowler; and her sons, Michael Fowler, Fred Fowler, Edward Fowler, and Roger Fowler. She is also survived by five grandsons, Toby Nimitz, Miles Abel, Dustin Fowler, Jarrett Abel, and Jordan Fowler; one granddaughter, Heidi Thompson; and nine great grandchildren.
Her family would like to give a special thanks to all of her caregivers, but especially Cherry Edwards; her hospice nurses, especially Julie Shevlin and Twannia Brown, Bert and Margaret
