Bobbie Wayne Bowers, retired turfing contractor and Whitney rancher of the Prairie Valley Community, died on June 3, 2016, in Whitney. A memorial service will be held at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors, at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 11, 2016 with Rev. Rusty Penney, Prairie Valley Baptist Church, officiating.
Bobbie was born in Garden City, Kansas on Novebmer 26, 1934 to Charles Lafayette and Bessie Ausmus Bowers and moved to Texas at an early age. He graduated from Edcouch-Elsa High School in the Rio Grande Valley area. He joined the Texas National Guard and was later an Air Force Cadet pilot trainee and also served in the U. S. Air Force, receiving an honorable discharge.
In 1961, he graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and then received a Masters degree in Education from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He taught school in Rosenburg, Texas and also in Whitney after moving to Hill County in 1971.
He is survived by his wife, Sara James Bowers; his daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Hans Taub; son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Jennifer Bowers; grandchildren, Jack, Ginger and Joe Bowers; sister and brother-in-law Barbara and James Farmer of Lindale; sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Lenvil Hines of Tennessee; step-sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Leon Griffon of Olton, Texas; and nieces, nephews, and many friends.
