Bobby Don Jones

Bobby Don Jones went home to be with the Lord on August 15, 2021, at the age of 89 years.  He was born 10/21/1931 in Hillsboro to Gus and Bernice Jones.  He graduated from Hillsboro High School playing football, track and baseball.  He played football at Hillsboro Junior College and at Weatherford Junior College, and had a senior college football scholarship.  He attended Baylor for two years prior to going into the military where he was a training officer.  He was in the Active Army for 2 years and then company commander of the local National Guard unit in Hillsboro.  After 17 years of service with the National Guard and Army Reserves, he left with the rank of captain.

He retired from the U. S. Post Office in Hillsboro, Texas, as Supervisor in 1988.

He married Bobbye June Cunningham in 1954 and had over 61 years of wonderful married life.  They both enjoyed watching their children grow into adults and serving the Lord.

In 1973 they both became Christian counselors and continued counseling   for 30 years together.  He was ordained into the ministry in 1993 and became associate pastor at Gospel Center Church.  He retired from ministry in 2015 when his wife became ill.  He went on missionary trips, twice to South America and once to South Africa.

He loved all of his children, their spouses and the 10 grandchildren and their spouses and also had special delight in all 8 of his great-grandchildren.

His life and his wife’s life were consumed by doing the work of the Lord from the early 1970s.  He was in love with Jesus and his church, and loved the body of Christ, and considered himself a bondservant to the Lord from 1971.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gus Jones, his mother Bernice Osborne Jones, his sister Nita, and brother Gus Jones Jr., and his wife Bobbye, and his great-grandson Caleb Haney.

He is survived by his brother Jack Jones and wife, Pat, of Terrell, Texas, his son Bobby Jones Jr., of Mansfield, his daughter Suzan Dibbern and husband, Bob, of Princeton, Texas, his son Steven Jones, and wife Mary, of Rockwall, Texas, and his daughter Terri Lloyd and husband, Larry, of Hillsboro, Texas, 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
