Bobby “Mr. B.” Stephens, 68, of Mertens passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Homestead Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 21, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Bro. Willie Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 20, at the funeral home.
Born January 14, 1945 in Brandon to Thomas Carl and Velma Pearl (Miller) Stephens, he was raised in Brandon and lived in Hill County all of his life. In 1965 he married Brenda Humphrey. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Irene and later Mertens, where he had resided since 1969. Brenda preceded him in death on April 18, 2012.
Bobby served in the United States Army and fought in Viet Nam. He was employed with Robintech/Spartan Copper and later for Dart Container, where he retired in 2001. A very outgoing person, he enjoyed sitting on his porch and visiting with his neighbors. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He attended First Baptist Church in Mertens.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Earl Thomas Stephens; and great-grandson, Dondrell Williams.
Survivors include his daughters, Debbie Green and Sherri Green and husband, Tim, all of Hillsboro; two brothers, Carl Richard Stephens of Hewitt and his twin, Billy Boyd Stephens and wife, Sue, of Kerens; six grandchildren, Sandra Batson and Marcus Williams, Nikki Green, Arianna Phillips, Dexter Green, Dusty Green, and Talana Green all of Hillsboro; two great-grandchildren, Dauntae Batson and Tra-vion Ephraim both of Hillsboro; one nephew and two nieces; faithful dog, Jake; and donkey, Gray.
