Bonnie Penney

On September 28, 2018, Bonnie Ruth Penney, surrounded by her children and other family members was ushered through the pearly gates of Heaven and into the presence of her Lord Jesus. She was 81 years, 10 months, and 11 days old. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at Prairie Valley Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Bobby Booth, Rev. Rusty Penney and Rev. David Gant. A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Monday, October 1, 2018, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.

Bonnie Ruth (Perkins) Penney was born on November 17, 1936 to R. L. Perkins, Jr. and Thelma Eugene (Martin) Perkins in their home in Woodbury, Texas. She was the oldest of five siblings. She attended Prairie Point School and would eventually graduate from Whitney High School. On December 28, 1952, Bonnie married the love of her life, Robert G. Penney, to whom she was married for 64 years. Only 6 months later, Robert would join the Army and serve two years in the Korean conflict. During that time, Robbie, their first child, made an appearance into this world on January 2, 1954, followed by the births of David, Connie, Charlie and Rusty.

Bonnie was a dedicated wife and mother and a godly Christian woman. On September 3, 1961, Bonnie and Robert, hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ, put their faith in Him, and were baptized on the same day at First Baptist Church, Whitney. Bonnie committed the majority of her time to caring for Robert, and her five children. In the early 1970's, she went to work in the Whitney Public School cafeteria. A few years later she became a Teacher's Aide for kindergarten, a job that she thoroughly loved! She retired from Whitney I.S.D. in May, 1999.

Bonnie and Robert were deeply committed to family, attending many, many football, basketball, baseball games and track meets. They were active in the Wildcat Booster Club. Bonnie gardened, canned, cooked and sewed, but her greatest joy was being with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bonnie was self-sacrificial, kind, humble and very loving. She was always there for her family. She had an ear to listen, a tender heart of compassion and wisdom for the moment. She will be greatly missed. She was a member of Towash Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Robert Gordon Penney, on May 10, 2017.

Survivors include her 4 sons and one daughter; Robert Penney, Jr. and wife, Sharon, David Penney and wife, Nita, Connie Gant and husband, David, Charles Penney, and wife, Penny, and Rusty Penney and wife, Joann. 16 grandchildren; Sherri Sorter and husband, Robert, Candi Penney, Misty Gallagher and husband, John, Melissa Penney, Kyle Gant and wife, Brandi, Joshua Gant and wife, Bonnie, Caleb Gant, Nathan Gant and wife, Kandice, Steven Penney and wife, Laura, Neal Penney and wife, Shelly, Natalie Hood and husband, Kyle, Chase Stevens and wife, Lacy, Skylar Chitwood and husband, Jeremy, Joseph Penney, Hannah Penney, and Micah Penney. 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Billy Perkins and wife, Sue, Tommy Perkins and wife, Dana, Bobby Perkins and wife, Barbara, and sister, Patsy Stewart.
