Bonnie Kathryn Radke, 94, of Hillsboro died peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Thursday, August 27, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Michael Nemec officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Malone. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Mrs. Radke was born November 2, 1920 at Kosse to Thomas Heron and Ressie Carmon White. She married William Fred “Willie” Radke on November 25, 1939 at Salem Lutheran Church in Malone.
Bonnie loved life, lived in the moment, and enjoyed being with people. She loved her family and helping people. She spent time tending her flowers, vegetable garden, and fruit trees. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.
After helping her husband farm for several years, she began working for Wood of Texas Manufacturing Company in Hillsboro. On July 1, 1965, she began selling Mary Kay Cosmetics just as the company was formed. She was recruited by Mary Kay Ash herself as the ninth recruit in the company. She had been a consultant for 49 of the 50 years the company has been in business and a Director for 42 years. She had been named Queen’s Court of Personal Sales for 37 times, had been a Star Consultant 137 times, and had earned 10 Company Gold Medals for recruitment. As the age of 90, she was presented her eighth “career car” by the company, which she earned through sales and recruiting consultants.
Bonnie often said she wanted to “die with her boots on.” True to her word, she still sold Mary Kay Cosmetics from her home, remaining a director of the company until shortly before her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1973; a grandson, Michael Shane Elliott in 1983; and five brothers, William Otis, T. H., Jay Lloyd, Euell, and Charles.
Survivors include her two children, Bobbie Joan Elliott and husband, W. T., and Billy Wayne Radke; granddaughter, Shawna Sanders and husband, Jimmy; five great-grandchildren, Erin Douglas and husband, Clint, Judson Sanders and wife, Shannon, Dustin Sanders and wife, Rachel, Tanner Sanders, and Colbie Sanders; and five great-great grandchildren, Alexis Douglas, Avyn Douglas, Brecklynn Sanders, Reydon Sanders, and Kyan Monteiro.
The family wishes to thank care-givers, Victoria Southern and Joy Evans, and the hospice nurses for lovingly caring for our Mother and keeping her comfortable even through her last days.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made in her memory to Christ Lutheran Church, 915 Corsicana Hwy., Hillsboro, TX 76645 or a charity of your choice.
